To support student learning in mathematics, teachers need both subject-matter knowledge and pedagogical knowledge. The type of subject-matter knowledge teachers need goes well beyond a general ability to do math. It is specific mathematical knowledge and skills unique to teachers. Mathematics Primary/Junior is designed to support you in acquiring this mathematical and pedagogical knowledge.
Your learning will begin with interpreting and understanding the resources provided in the course. You will deepen and extend your understanding by discussing the ideas with your colleagues online and at school. A significant part of your learning will happen when you take the ideas back to your classroom. Monitor the impact of these new practices on your students’ engagement and learning, and reflect on how you can improve.
