Are you new to teaching Senior Math? Or looking to take your Math teaching to the next level? Senior Math AQ provides the tools to build your Math teaching repertoire. You will explore current learning theories and innovative teaching strategies. You will consider the role of learning environments and inclusive practice on student learning. You will have options to inquire about topics that interest you. You will share thoughts and ideas with colleagues, receive feedback, and reflect.

This course will help you plan and implement an effective Senior Math program. You’ll:

• experience elements of backward design
• explore how to collect balanced evidence of learning from varied assessment opportunities
• learn how to tailor learning experiences to suit your students’ learning styles and needs
• create tasks that you can use right away in your Senior Math classroom

Course Learning Expectations

In this course you will:

• explore current learning theories and how they relate to teaching and learning math
• consider how learning environments and inclusive pedagogy affect students’ ability to learn
• analyze the role of assessment and evaluation
• design effective program for Senior Math using curriculum and responsive design
• create learning activities and assessments that promote citizenship and employ innovative techniques and technology
• network with other math educators
• participate in critical reflective inquiry

Application Requirements

1) OCT MEMBERSHIP

We will use the OCT number you provide during online registration to confirm you are an OCT member with an undergraduate degree.

2) YOUR ORIGINAL UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT(S)*

Your transcript(s) must show:

The equivalent of 3.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate courses in Mathematics or the equivalent of 2.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate courses if you already hold another senior qualification. At least half of the required courses MUST be from a Mathematics department in areas such as Calculus, Algebra, Differential Equations, etc. The remaining required courses can be related to Mathematics such as; Statistics, Physics (Dynamics, Heat Transfer), Analytical Chemistry, etc.

If you have completed an undergrad (at any time with Queen's), or a B.Ed., Honour Specialist, or an Intermediate or Senior ABQ course within the last 4 years with us you are not required to resend your transcripts.
