The purpose of this course is to build the skill and competence required to understand and respond to the needs of students with learning disabilities (LDs). The focus is on reading, writing, math, and nonverbal LDs. The developmental and neurological basis of LDs will be explored. You’ll learn to apply the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education’s needs-based, multi-tiered programming model to develop evidence-based targeted interventions and classroom instructional programs and accommodations for students with LDs,. This course also explores transitional planning and the inclusion of students with LDs throughout and beyond their school experience. Skills and knowledge will be developed through independent and group reading activities, learning activities that emphasize application of knowledge, and building a resource bank that can be used beyond the course.
