Course Description

British Columbia has recently made significant changes to its assessment practices and policies. These changes have made assessment and evaluation more learner-centred, and educators are now encouraged to learn and grow alongside their students. Have you ever considered how assessment could be a tool for educational equity? In this course you'll learn about assessment as a decolonizing practice, explore your assessment identity, and consider ways to make assessment more student-centred. You'll implement practical assessment tools. You’ll explore proficiency scales, learning progressions, and the revised reporting policy. You'll also explore ways your teaching practice can be enriched in assessment and learning.

What You Will Learn and Do

In this course you’ll have the opportunity to:

• explore how educational assessment is a crucial component of reconciliation and decolonizing teaching practice
• consider competency-based assessment and how to implement it 
• discover how assessment identity plays a role in pedagogy and practice
• examine BC’s new reporting policy and proficiency scale
• design student-centred assessment opportunities
• explore aspects of the proficiency scale and learning progressions
• apply your learning about assessment and evaluation in your own educational setting

Application Requirements

Courses and Post-Graduate Certificates are approved by TQS for Category Upgrade. If you would like these courses to be used towards Category Upgrading, you must have a valid BC Teacher Certificate.

ECEs, EAs, and other education professionals are welcome to take the courses without Certification.

Refund Schedule

If you drop a course:

1. by the midpoint of the course, you will receive 100% of your course fee.
2. after the midpoint, before the end of the course, you will receive 50% of your course fee.
