Courses and Post-Graduate Certificates are approved by TQS for Category Upgrade. If you would like these courses to be used towards Category Upgrading, you must have a valid BC Teacher Certificate.
ECEs, EAs, and other education professionals are welcome to take the courses without Certification.
Course participants are required to have access to at least one Level B achievement test from their workplace (either from the school or central office). Candidates will need to administer a Level B assessment test to two school-age children with complex learning needs (e.g., multiple learning difficulties and neurocognitive difficulties [ADHD]).
Examples of recommended Level B assessment tools and protocols for training purposes include:
If your school district does not have the most current edition, an older edition can be used. If your district has assessment kits other than those listed above, go to Pearson Clinical Canada or Nelson Assessments to verify that those test kits are for Level B assessments. Be sure to inform your instructor about your plans. If you are still unsure, email cedmail@queensu.ca.Â
Note that this course requires you to access student school files and administer a Level B assessment with two students. It will be important to discuss your plans and request approval from your school administrator. Signed parental consent will also be required to review a student’s school file, undertake Level B assessment work, and report on results.
Candidates who are required to provide a letter of enrolment to their Special Education department to access the Level B tests may do so by contacting cedmail@queensu.ca.
Applicants who require accommodations for a specific learning need (e.g., learning disability) within their AQ/ABQ course, should click here for further information and support.
