Why should you use data to enhance your instructional practice? Can numbers truly provide insights into student learning? The answer is yes—data use informed by evidence and analysis is vital to elevating your professional practice. By leveraging data to measure organizational success, you gain a deeper understanding of student learning and can critically assess what the data reveals.

In this course, you'll gather quantitative and qualitative information about student knowledge. Through data analysis and actionable planning, you'll create opportunities for more students to demonstrate proficiency. This continuous improvement cycle is essential for fostering student success and strengthening your professional growth.

You will also explore publicly available data and other sources to gain a comprehensive view of student performance. Completing an authentic plan of action tailored to your workplace will put your learning into real-world practice and demonstrate meaningful impact.

What You Will Learn and Do

In this course you’ll have the opportunity to

• judge provincial data reflective of your school district and be able to interpret it and predict future success using a valid and reliable method
• analyze various qualitative and quantitative data collection methods
• develop and use forms of assessment, evaluation and student data collection, ensuring a continuous improvement cycle
• demonstrate your understanding of the data-driven and data-analysis concepts applicable to your district, school or classroom
• apply student data and assessment understanding and skills to increase your personal learning and adjust your instructional practice
• design a culminating task that authentically applies your course learning to your district, school or classroom

Application Requirements

Courses and Post-Graduate Certificates are approved by TQS for Category Upgrade. If you would like these courses to be used towards Category Upgrading, you must have a valid BC Teacher Certificate.

ECEs, EAs, and other education professionals are welcome to take the courses without Certification.

Refund Schedule

If you drop a course:

1. by the midpoint of the course, you will receive 100% of your course fee.
2. after the midpoint, before the end of the course, you will receive 50% of your course fee.
