Course Description

In today's ever-evolving educational landscape, effective leadership is a crucial force in shaping the future of science education. This course is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to become an influential leader in science education. In our dynamic and interactive learning environment, you'll delve into crucial aspects of leadership, such as communication, collaboration, and various leadership styles. 

In this course, you'll explore the art of effective communication, empowering you to craft persuasive and impactful messages tailored to the diverse stakeholders in science education. You'll use collaboration as a cornerstone to lead science programs. You'll develop skills to forge strong partnerships, promote teamwork, and drive educational progress. You'll gain insights into various leadership styles and learn to adapt your approach to different situations, enabling you to inspire and motivate others effectively. Through engaging case studies, thought-provoking discussions, and hands-on practical exercises, you'll develop a comprehensive understanding of the distinctive challenges and opportunities leaders encounter in science education.

What You Will Learn and Do

In this course you’ll have the opportunity to

• explore different leadership styles and principles and their potential impact on science education
• examine the importance of creating an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible learning environment that supports diversity in science education 
• analyze the role of evidence-based data to inform decisions in science leadership
• discuss how technology affects science education and leadership
• investigate strategies for managing and leading change in science education, including curriculum development and implementation
• consider communication strategies that are enhanced by leadership principles
• create a leadership plan for the science department

Application Requirements

Courses and Post-Graduate Certificates are approved by TQS for Category Upgrade. If you would like these courses to be used towards Category Upgrading, you must have a valid BC Teacher Certificate.

ECEs, EAs, and other education professionals are welcome to take the courses without Certification.

Refund Schedule

If you drop a course:

1. by the midpoint of the course, you will receive 100% of your course fee.
2. after the midpoint, before the end of the course, you will receive 50% of your course fee.
