How does trauma affect student growth, learning, and relationships? How do school policies and norms influence student safety and belonging? What is healing and how can it be present in schools? How can you contribute to well-being, belonging, learning, and connection in your school?
Trauma-informed practice allows us to understand the experiences behind the behaviours we see in our schools. It helps us transform our learning environments into places where all community members are given the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Our understanding of individual psychology and sociology sets us in a position to see the harm caused by some of our school norms and to explore the range of supports that can be implemented in our daily practice and across our schools and districts to enhance healing, well-being, belonging, and growth.
This course expands your capacity to develop trauma-informed practices by providing opportunities to learn about implicit bias, racism, adverse childhood experiences, microaggressions, and social capital. You’ll also learn how to create opportunities for repair and healing. You will consider your own well-being and try various healing practices. Teacher wellness promotes student wellness! You will apply your learning to develop strategies to support students in and out of the classroom. This course will empower you to make a positive difference in BC education!
In this course you’ll have the opportunity to
