Inquiry is a common term in education, but what does teaching through inquiry involve? How can educators create inquiry-rich learning environments for our students while balancing curriculum needs? How can inquiry inspire students to explore their passions and apply their learning in real-world contexts?
The BC curriculum has shifted from a content-driven approach to one that emphasizes student inquiry and action. This course will examine the role inquiry plays in the BC curriculum and the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning. You’ll explore the concept of inquiry, various inquiry frameworks, techniques to provoke wonder, methods for assessing student-focused inquiry, and how inquiry can foster student agency.
In this course, you’ll have opportunities to reflect on your own practice and collaborate with course colleagues to explore pedagogical strategies for implementing inquiry-based learning. You’ll discover how inquiry-based learning can empower students to extend their learning beyond the classroom walls and engage with the broader community.
