This course will introduce you to the current trends in teaching Health and Physical Education (H&PE) at the elementary school level. You will explore ethical teaching standards, culturally responsive pedagogy, truth and reconciliation as it pertains to H&PE, and anti-oppressive education. You will also delve into equity, diversity, and inclusion in H&PE. You will dig into the H&PE curriculum to get a better understanding of the strands, especially as they pertain to the health component of the curriculum. You will focus on lesson planning, unit plans, and long-range plans. You will also focus on understanding the Fundamental Movement Skills and the Teaching Games for Understanding model, both key components of the Ontario curriculum. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to look at resources and best practices from around the world.
