In Mathematics Part 2, you’ll continue to explore and apply research to develop classroom practices that result in increased mathematical proficiency and positive math identities for all students. You will examine frameworks for effective teaching and learning that are useful for making decisions among teaching approaches and evaluating the impact of teaching moves. You will explore and discuss ideas for engaging students and parents as partners in learning. A major focus of this course is to develop critical use of research in planning for learning. You will examine research about how memories are created and stored and consider implications for sequencing and organizing learning experiences. You will study research on the development of math content knowledge for teaching, with a focus on algebra, fractions, spatial reasoning, and the mathematical processes. 1) OCT Membership showing completion of Part 1
2) CONFIRMATION OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE FORM Signed by a Supervisory Official* from your Board confirming that you have one year (194 days) of teaching experience since becoming a certified teacher.
*The Ontario College of Teachers defines "Supervisory Official" as the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent of the school board for a teacher employed by a Board of Education. A principal or headmaster is not recognized in this capacity.
For a teacher employed by a private school, the "supervisory official" is the Ministry of Education official (Education Officer) appointed to your school. For overseas experience the appropriate Supervisory Official is the person your Principal reports to.
**Please note that if you have an existing Part 2, Part 3 (Specialist), or Honour Specialist qualification on your OCT record you are not required to submit a form for a Part 2 course. A new form is always required for Part 3 (Specialist).
Please email a copy of your Confirmation of Teaching Experience Form to cedmail@queensu.ca
