Course Description

"Environmental education is education about the environment, for the environment and in the environment. It promotes an understanding of the positive and negative consequences, both intended and unintended, of the reciprocal relationships between human-created and earth's grand natural systems." (Roberta Bondar et al., Shaping our Schools, Shaping our Future: Environmental Education in Ontario Schools, 2007)

The Environmental Education Part 1 Additional Qualification course is designed to develop environmental educators at all teaching levels. Through collaboration, reflection, and inquiry, you will explore and critically analyze a variety of topics in this diverse and growing subject area. You will explore topics such as ecological literacy, land-based teaching, experiential learning, and traditional ecological knowledge, as well as examining evolving topics such as global citizenship, eco-anxiety, and ecological justice. Environmental Education Part 1 will challenge you to develop partnerships with your colleagues and in your community and to promote student engagement, empowerment and agency. You'll look at ways to stay current in this important subject area, develop or expand your Personal Learning Network, and plan for continuing your professional development in this area. Completing this course will prepare you to become an environmental leader in your school.

Application Requirements

We will use the OCT number you provide during online registration to confirm OCT Membership and undergraduate degree, with qualifications in Primary, Junior, Intermediate or Senior.

Refund Schedule

If you drop a course:

1. by the midpoint of the course, you will receive 100% of your course fee.
2. after the midpoint, before the end of the course, you will receive 50% of your course fee.
