Course Description

In the Intermediate Science AQ, you’ll explore a variety of pedagogical strategies and techniques that will empower you to support a wide diversity of learners in a destreamed science classroom. This course uses an evidence-based approach to create resources that promote learning about science through an inquiry-based process that embraces the principles of equity. You will develop your skills through a collaborative learning model that allows you to network with other Science educators. By the end of the course, you will have a deep understanding of relevant Ministry policies and curricular expectations and access to resources co-created with colleagues.

What You Will Learn and Do

In this course you’ll have the opportunity to

• examine instructional designs and practices that support the well-being and achievement of diverse students
• analyze issues and strategies that support equity in educational settings
• review professional standards and government policies
• create long-ranged plans that address curriculum expectations and develop students’ global competency skills
• diversify your understanding and skills in designing assessment and evaluation tasks
• explore the principles and strategies of Universal Design of Learning
• design lessons that use Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy
• apply instructional designs and practices that embrace First Nations, Metis, and Inuit perspectives and ways of knowing
• develop strategies supporting inquiry-based programs and collaborative learning

Application Requirements

1) OCT MEMBERSHIP

We will use the OCT number you provide during online registration to confirm you are an OCT member with an undergraduate degree.

2) YOUR UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT(S)*

Your transcript(s) must show: The equivalent of 3.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate courses in Science or the equivalent of 2.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate courses if you already hold another intermediate qualification. Courses can include Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

*If you completed a Queen's undergrad (at any time), or a B.Ed., Honour Specialist, or an Intermediate or Senior ABQ course with us within the last 4 years you are not required to resend your transcripts.

Refund Schedule

If you drop a course:

1. by the midpoint of the course, you will receive 100% of your course fee.
2. after the midpoint, before the end of the course, you will receive 50% of your course fee.
