Course Description

Integration of Information and Computer Technology in Instruction, Part I introduces you to practical technological tools for enhancing curriculum and supporting and engaging 21st-century learners. By exploring current trends, Ministry of Education documents and research, you will gain hands-on experience integrating resources into instruction. You will examine technology’s role in education, choose tools to meet educator and learner needs and explore responsibilities for improving learner achievement grounded in Ontario's curriculum expectations. Practical activities will allow you to design technology-enabled learning experiences to extend the classroom environment and to enable learner communication, collaboration, connection and creation. By the end of the course, you will have developed a foundation in leveraging information and communication technologies as educational tools to positively impact learning outcomes.

What You Will Learn and Do

In this course, you’ll have the opportunity to

• critically evaluate the role of technology in education and its impact on learning
• demonstrate proficiency in promoting digital citizenship and online safety through the responsible integration of technology
• integrate educational technology tools in ways that promote equity, inclusion and culturally responsive pedagogy, considering diverse learner needs and backgrounds
• utilize technology-based assessment strategies to differentiate instruction, accommodate diverse learning preferences, provide timely feedback and monitor learning outcomes effectively
• incorporate Indigenous knowledge systems, environmental awareness and decolonization principles into technology-integrated instructional practices
• uphold educator professional and ethical standards in the integration of educational technology
• evaluate, choose and effectively utilize appropriate educational technology tools to support specific learning objectives and curriculum content
• develop strategies for continuous professional growth and collaboration to stay up to date with the ever-evolving field of educational technology

1. by the midpoint of the course, you will receive 100% of your course fee.
2. after the midpoint, before the end of the course, you will receive 50% of your course fee.
