The Senior Biology AQ is designed to prepare you to teach Senior-level Biology by examining concepts related to the nature and teaching of science, with emphasis on exploring and challenging the strategies used to teach biological concepts. The course is structured around the following questions:
• Who are the learners?
• What do I want them to know or be able to do?
• How will I know they have learned?
• What learning conditions are needed to create to support the learning?
Through independent research, small-group and whole-class discussion, collaboration, and reflection, you will explore these questions as they relate to the Senior Biology curriculum. In the process, you will develop ideas to teach a robust, engaging and inquiry-driven class that is inclusive for all students and sensitive to potential biases. Opportunities for professional dialogue, collaborative inquiry, access to rich resources, and investigation of the role of technology in supporting teaching and learning will enable you to feel confident in teaching a Senior Biology course.
